Background

My name is Alan. I was graduated in 2013 from Fu-Jen University with a bachelor in History. My motto is “don't be afraid to be slow, but be afraid of doing nothing” and “attitude is everything”.

Work Experience: Manufacturing Industry in Fuzhou

After graduated from university, I worked as a Management Associate in the Fuzhou Production Management Department of FootJoy, an MNC of American golf brand. My job mainly focused on production planning and restricted substances lists management.

After three months of employment, I encountered a production crisis caused by high staff turnover rate in the department. During this crisis, I was assigned to train the novice employee. I ensured that they don’t do inexperienced mistakes and maintain their well-being under the stressful circumstances. I also try to communicate the problem with all departments and suppliers, so we can cooperate to solve major crisis. Finally, the turnover rate was handled properly within three months.

Therefore, after a year of employment, the company promoted me directly to the deputy section manager of the managing department and assigned me to assist the section manager of department. During this period, I trained 5 new recruits.

Transferring Career: Information Industry

In the scope of manufacturing industry, I was challenged by common problem which often encountered by conventional manufacturing industry. In the era of digital optimization, work content and production process usually will undergo many changes and adjustments over the time. If the company does not regularly optimize and rebuild the system every 5 to 10 years, the overwhelming old system will have a huge impact on productivity and production quality. Because, nowadays, hardware is no longer a huge aspect, yet the quality and stability of software play more important role in manufacturing industry.

The work experience that I have from manufacturing field makes me realize, programming skill has a big role among the people in nowadays and future. Hence, I attended a Java programming class of the Information Technology Trainee in Taiwan for half a year. The training was completed at the end of 2017, and I successfully entered the Tradevan to work.

Work Experience: Information Industry in Taipei

After entering technology and information industry, I continued to improve my programming and problem-solving skill. I have started a daily online study group with a friend since November 2017 and have been spending at least 20 hours a month to brainstorm and solve the problem that we frequently encounter at work. Eventually, we took certification exam together and successfully obtained OCPJP 6 in 2016, OCAJP 8 in 2019 and OCPJP 11 in 2021.

Also, I have been taking online courses and side projects in order to continuously enhance myself with new skills. Currently, I have been working at Tradevan for over three years. I took a role as PG for the first two years and SD for the third year. The work content is mainly developing projects with continuous new requirement, and about 20% is maintaining projects. The framework that we usually use is Struts2 and Spring, and the development projects are all using Spring framework. For the front-end, I am familiar with JSP page and jQuery. For the back-end, I still use Java as my expertise. Also, for the database, I mainly use MSSQL and become familiar with T-SQL along my journey. In addition to that, I also have some experience in Oracle and PL/SQL.

As my motto, a good skill must be accompanied with excellence attitude. Thus, in handling a project, I usually will conceive some perspective from the user, so the program I developed is usually stable and in good quality. For all my hard work, I gained some recognition from customer and one of the projects I participated in is being awarded as the 2nd Digital Service Innovation Award by the Digital Transformation Association (DTA).

I also have experience in the design and modification in the AA level of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0) accessibility websites for 2 projects, and because of this, I was selected to support a national project designated by the Executive Yuan to help apply for NCC accessibility website certification.

Besides developing and maintaining projects, I am also a lecturer and lead mentor in the department's internal education and training. My duty is to set the department's newcomer training SOP and to mentor inexperienced new recruit, therefore they can be familiar with development process and competence in master programming skills. In the end, I have mentored nine mentees before leave Tradevan.

Work Experience: Financial Industry in Taipei

In 2021, I entered the financial industry. I'm responsible for systems development and maintenance and acted as the contact person for I-KEY issuing system and cooperation manufacturer. Since 2023, I have also been acting as an assistant system analyst and pg for B2Bank new app hybrid cloud projects, collaborate with manufacturers to develop.

Career plans

I hope to cultivate more diversified cross-domain capabilities. I will first continue to develop and learn about mainstream cloud services. I have obtained the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification, and I am committed to ongoing learning and deepening my knowledge of cloud technologies. Additionally, I aim to enhance my analytical skills as a business analyst by strengthening my data-driven mindset.
